Conclusion

This will be the last post I will put up on this blog, unfortunately the school semester is over, but i hade a good time sharing my stories and knowledge of this great sport. I hope you guys got some useful information and a little bit more of a respect for the sport. I personally think it’s a fantastic sport and there should be more opportunities for other people to try it and hopefully fal in love with the sport like I did. I think that its good for many purposes because it gets kids and teenagers off of the coach and outside to get some fresh air. Also it gives them something to do so instead of them sitting around at the mall or something and smoking or doing other illegal activities it gives them a hobbies and hopefully keeps them out of bad habits. So I just want to thank everyone who wrote in about their stories and who asked me to write about a certain topic, and I hope I helped answer a few o those questions for you. So I might possible add a few more blogs here and their if you guys want I can continue on, just let me know...until then have a great time ridding or next time you go to ski maybe try grabbing a snowboard to change it up a bit. Riding Skeleton

There such a thing called skeleton ridding which is when you ride with your front foot strapped into your binding and keep your back foot out as if you are getting off the chair lift. But the differences between riding skeleton and riding regular, is well you only have one foot in your board and you have much less control over what you want to do. it is illegal to ride skeleton when you are in a competition, the only time you are legal to ride skeleton is for photo shoots, or when you are just with your buds joy riding. a big downfall with riding skeleton is that it is extremely easy to brake your ankle because all the tress of the board is concentrated on your one ankle. also it's much easier to hurt yourself because you only have one point of pressure on your board so it easy to lose control of the back end of your board which is the part that stabilizes you. but when you pull of a trick while riding skeleton it is highly recognizable from sponsors and fellow borders. so that is why a lot of people attempt to ride skeleton, for the sponsors and the big bucks.

Comparing Skiing and Snowboarding

Snowboarding is a newer sport, compared to skiing as been around ever since 2500 or 4500 B.C. it’s the farthest thing from snowboarding. For example skiing you have two separate objects on your feet as to snowboarding you got both your feet strapped in to one object. Also skis have a device on the binding that when you fall a certain way and apply a certain amount of pressure on you ankle or bindings your boots will separate from the actual binding so you cant injure yourself. Compared to snowboarding when you fall your feet are stuck in the bindings so its more dangerous of a sport. Also everyone finds snowboarding to be a more risk taking sport and skiing a sport for relaxing and having a good time on the mountain. Another thing is skies are made for speed and boards are made fro tricks and younger people. I say that because you have to do a lot more movement and lower body work on a snowboard compared to skis. Older people can still snowboard but they must condition themselves before. Actually everyone should do conditioning before snowboarding so that they don’t pull a muscle or worse break a bone.

Types of Snow

Everyone thinks that any snow is good for snowboarding but in effect that’s not true at all. The best snow for just riding around and having a good time is powder, but when your riding it makes it harder to manoeuver your board because you have to swing your hips harder to get you board to turn and you have to move the snow around you at the same time. So its important that when your riding powder to have a good meal in you and lots of water and a good nights rest. Also if your in to rails and stuff a good pact of snow is good so you have complete control, over what you want to do and you can move with ease. When your going for jumps and big air its nice to have a solid base but on the top layer of the snow have a bit of ice chunks, so go the day after a sunny day so the snow melts a bit and then over night it freezes up so that the top layer becomes icy. I prefer this because it allows you to get a lot of speed meaning you get more air so you can their for do more tricks.

Shaun Whites Personal Superpipe

If you notice all the big names in snowboarding such as Shaun White and Shaun Palmer are pretty young for having put such a big influence in the sport. For example Shaun White being only 24 has made such a big impact on the sport, from going to skate boarding to ripping up the half pipe like its no ones business. He also hit it off in slopstyle, which they kind of took the idea of bmx free riding but switched it up a bit and made it for snowboarding. It’s where they lay out all kinds of different obstacles such as bumps, rails, and jumps and they can combo up any feature they like and that’s how they are judges by the difficulty of the combinations. But one of his most recent achievements is when you one his first snowboarding grand prix. He took home the silver but he’s happy with that because it is one of the most intense tournament there is out their. One of the things Shaun is most recognized for is the half pipe that he had built personally for himself on the back side of Silverton Mountain. It was made 100% out of natural snow, the walls were 22 footers, which are the one of the biggest walls in superpipe.

Maintenance

Maintenance is a very important of the sport because if you do not maintain the proper condition of your snowboard you can easily damage the board or worse you can seriously injure yourself. One of the most important thing to maintain is the bottom of the board because when you ride there is many things that can damage the board such as dirt, mud, twigs or branches, grinds, and even the snow you ride on. The snow because when you ride on icier conditions it tends to scratch up the bottom of the board which takes of the wax and gives more resistance and slows you down. And when you do grind the plastic or metal more times then none have either welds or screws holding it together, so those tend to stick out and rip part of the fiberglass of the board which is dangerous because it ruins the structure of the board causing a week point in the board so if you do more grind chances are that is will snap. You should go to a professional to get your board re hot waxed every week or so after being used. Or you should hot wax it before competitions or a big trip.
